California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) and Vice President Vance on Monday sparred on social media over the situation in the Los Angeles area.<\/p>\n
The back-and-forth between the governor and the vice president started with Newsom responding to comments from President Trump, who said he would support arresting the Golden State governor<\/a>.<\/p>\n \u201cThe President of the United States just called for the arrest of a sitting Governor. This is a day I hoped I would never see in America. I don\u2019t care if you\u2019re a Democrat or a Republican, this is a line we cannot cross as a nation \u2014 this is an unmistakable step toward authoritarianism,\u201d Newsom said Monday afternoon on the social platform X<\/a>.<\/p>\n Vance responded to Newsom on X nearly two hours later<\/a>, telling the governor to \u201cDo your job.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cThat\u2019s all we\u2019re asking,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n \u201cDo YOUR job. We didn\u2019t have a problem until Trump got involved. Rescind the order. Return control to California,\u201d Newsom shot back<\/a> at Vance in a Monday evening response.<\/p>\n Trump deployed 2,000 National Guard members to the Los Angeles area<\/a> on Saturday amid protests against Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
