{"id":1651,"date":"2025-08-05T22:50:24","date_gmt":"2025-08-05T22:50:24","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.logicalware.net\/?p=1651"},"modified":"2025-08-12T19:23:45","modified_gmt":"2025-08-12T19:23:45","slug":"violent-crime-drops-by-4-5-percent-in-2024-fbi-data","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.logicalware.net\/index.php\/2025\/08\/05\/violent-crime-drops-by-4-5-percent-in-2024-fbi-data\/","title":{"rendered":"Violent crime drops by 4.5 percent in 2024: FBI data"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Violent crime declined by 4.5 percent in 2024, according to an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fbi.gov\/news\/press-releases\/fbi-releases-2024-reported-crimes-in-the-nation-statistics\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">FBI report released<\/a> Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>The 2024 drop in violent crime follows a 3 percent drop the year before and continues a general downward trend seen since levels peaked during COVID.<\/p>\n<p>The latest data also shows a year-over-year decrease across all other major crime categories.<\/p>\n<p>The FBI report shows murder and nonnegligent manslaughter declined by 14.9 percent in 2024, compared with the previous year; rapes declined by 5.2 percent; aggravated assault declined by 3 percent; and robbery declined by 8.9 percent.<\/p>\n<p>Reported hate crimes decreased by 1.5 percent in 2024, compared with the year before.<\/p>\n<p>Brian Levin \u2014 the founder of the Center for the Study of Hate and Extremism and professor emeritus at California State University, San Bernardino \u2014 <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/fbi-crime-statistics-report-e785a5a970597f2ebf78ea093baeaa28\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">told The Associated Press<\/a> that, despite the decline in hate crimes, last year still recorded the second highest levels in the 30 years that the center has collected data.<\/p>\n<p>The report shows violent crime occurred on average every 25.9 seconds in 2024, while a murder occurred on average every 31.1 minutes and a rape occurred every 4.1 minutes.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Violent crime declined by 4.5 percent in 2024, according to an FBI report released Tuesday.
