{"id":1280,"date":"2025-07-22T15:44:16","date_gmt":"2025-07-22T15:44:16","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.logicalware.net\/?p=1280"},"modified":"2025-07-22T19:14:53","modified_gmt":"2025-07-22T19:14:53","slug":"ketamine-seized-en-route-from-europe-to-southern-florida-cbp","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.logicalware.net\/index.php\/2025\/07\/22\/ketamine-seized-en-route-from-europe-to-southern-florida-cbp\/","title":{"rendered":"Ketamine seized en route from Europe to southern Florida: CBP"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>(<a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsnationnow.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">NewsNation<\/a>) \u2014 A series of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsnationnow.com\/politics\/doj-to-give-update-on-drug-cartel-operations\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">drug seizures<\/a> from international air cargo is catching the attention of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsnationnow.com\/us-news\/ap-us-news\/ap-there-are-many-illegal-marijuana-farms-but-federal-agents-targeted-californias-biggest-legal-one\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">federal agents<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>U.S. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsnationnow.com\/crime\/off-duty-cbp-border-patrol-shooting-robbery\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Customs and Border Protection<\/a> (CBP) has seen a pattern of ketamine shipments being sent directly from Europe and Florida, bypassing <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsnationnow.com\/us-news\/cbp-man-arrested-for-smuggling-fentanyl-in-body-cavity\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">traditional smuggling corridors<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>In the last six weeks, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbp.gov\/newsroom\/local-media-release\/philadelphia-cbp-intercepts-another-72-pounds-dangerous-ketamine\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">CBP officers in Philadelphia<\/a> intercepted seven express mail shipments from Europe and seized a total of 130 pounds of ketamine hydrochloride. <\/p>\n<div class=\"nlp-ignore-block article-content rich-text\">\n<aside class=\"promo-link\">\n\t<a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsnationnow.com\/crime\/fentanyl\/cbp-man-arrested-for-smuggling-fentanyl-in-body-cavity\/\" class=\"promo-link__link\" target=\"&quot;_blank&quot;\" rel=\"noopener\"><br \/>\n\t\tCBP: Man arrested for smuggling fentanyl in body cavity\t<\/a><br \/>\n<\/aside>\n<\/div>\n<p>The drugs were concealed in fake packages labeled as everyday objects \u2014 including fishing rods, air filters and Mercedes-Benz headlights. <\/p>\n<p>Every package had the same destination: South Florida, specifically Broward County, home to Miami&#8217;s bustling club scene.<\/p>\n<p>Unlike <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsnationnow.com\/crime\/fentanyl\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">fentanyl<\/a> or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsnationnow.com\/us-news\/immigration\/border-coverage\/cartels\/cartels-disguising-meth-adderall-mdma-dea\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">meth<\/a>\u2014 which often <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsnationnow.com\/video\/trump-signs-legislation-toughening-fentanyl-related-drug-penalties-elizabeth-vargas-reports\/10897653\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">enter the U.S. across land borders<\/a> \u2014 the use of international express mail and fake product labels makes this type of smuggling harder to catch. <\/p>\n<p>According to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dea.gov\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration,<\/a> ketamine is a powerful anesthetic commonly used in veterinary medicine and sometimes in hospitals for pain relief. <\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Ketamine is a very dangerous anesthetic that can seriously harm abusers and unsuspecting victims. It&#8217;s often smoked, snorted or slipped into drinks \u2014 and authorities say it is sometimes combined with ecstasy or club drugs to intensify the high.<\/p>\n<p>The drug has also been linked to sexual assaults, where predators use it to incapacitate victims, the agency said.<\/p>\n<p>Investigations into how these shipments were being routed to the Sunshine State \u2014and who is behind them \u2014 are still ongoing. <\/p>\n<div class=\"nlp-ignore-block article-content rich-text\">\n<aside class=\"promo-link\">\n\t<a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsnationnow.com\/us-news\/northeast\/nyc-tattoo-shop-kidnapping\/\" class=\"promo-link__link\" target=\"&quot;_blank&quot;\" rel=\"noopener\"><br \/>\n\t\tNYC tattoo shop owner, wife accused of kidnapping employee: DA\t<\/a><br \/>\n<\/aside>\n<\/div>\n<p>While ketamine is flying in from Europe, the U.S.-Mexico border is still the site of smuggling. On Friday, July 18, CBP officers in El Paso, Texas, arrested a U.S. citizen trying to smuggle fentanyl by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsnationnow.com\/us-news\/cbp-man-arrested-for-smuggling-fentanyl-in-body-cavity\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">concealing it in his body.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The man was stopped at the Bridge of the Americas pedestrian crossing, and a K-9 alerted officers. After a medical scan, doctors discovered two condom-wrapped bundles in his rectum \u2014 one filled with powdered fentanyl, the other with pills.
